About Tranexamic acid
Tranexamic acid is a medicine that helps stop or reduce heavy bleeding. It works as an 'antifibrinolytic' — it slows the breakdown of blood clots, so a clot that forms to stop bleeding stays in place longer. In Nigeria it is used for several genuinely important reasons: heavy menstrual periods, bleeding after surgery, dental work, or injury, nosebleeds, and — very significantly — to prevent and treat the dangerous bleeding that can follow childbirth.
