Made in Nigeria

How much of Nigeria's registered medicine supply is actually manufactured here? We count it straight from the factory country the NAFDAC Greenbook records for each registration — no estimates, no surveys.

25%

of the 3,139 active medicine registrations we track (those whose factory country our August 2026 Greenbook copy records) are manufactured in Nigeria — 785 products.

Who makes medicines in Nigeria

The registration holders with the most products whose recorded factory is in Nigeria — medicines made here rather than imported. Counts current registrations, not sales volumes. A company may own the plant or have the work done by another Nigerian factory under contract; each company's profile names the plant where the Greenbook records it.

Beyond medicines: the whole register

The same count across everything NAFDAC registers, where our copy records a factory country. The pattern inverts by product class: conventional medicines are mostly imported, herbal products are mostly made at home, and none of the recorded vaccines are manufactured in Nigeria.

Drugs25% local (1,319/5,282 recorded, of 5,285 active)
Vaccines and Biologics0% local (0/37 recorded, of 147 active)
Herbals and Nutraceuticals78% local (67/86 recorded, of 91 active)

Medical devices (1,031 active, factory country recorded on 21), Veterinary (93 active, factory country recorded on 0) are omitted: our copy records too few factory countries there for a share to be honest rather than a guess.

How we count this

For every medicine we cover, we take its active, single-ingredient registrations in our August 2026 copy of the NAFDAC Greenbook and read the manufacturer country recorded on each listing. Only registrations with a recorded country are counted — some listings don't carry one, so the true totals are larger than shown here. A locally made product means the factory is in Nigeria; the brand owner or registration holder may still be a foreign company, and vice versa. Figures update automatically with each monthly registry refresh.

Explore the companies behind these numbers on our manufacturer profiles, or check any product's registration with the NAFDAC checker.
