Our October 2026 copy of the NAFDAC Greenbook lists Danacid Tablets — registration number 04-1068 — with status Active. This listing is a combination product that includes Magnesium Trisilicate (Compound Antacid).
How to tell a genuine Danacid pack
- The tablets carry NAFDAC number 04-1068 and the holder's name, Dana Pharmaceuticals Limited, made in Nigeria. The suspension is a separate registration, A4-2892 — a tablet pack printed with the suspension's number, or with any other number, is not the registered product.
- The register records the tablet as 250 mg magnesium trisilicate with 120 mg dried aluminium hydroxide, sold as 12 blisters of 8 in a box or a jar of 1,000. A different strength or pack size on the carton is not what 04-1068 was registered for.
- Our October 2026 copy of the register records 04-1068 as Active, approved 27 October 2022 and running to 26 October 2027. 'Active' is the register's word for the number, not a verdict on the pack in your hand — the name, strength and holder have to match as well.
- Compare the carton with the photograph on this page. The name is spelled Danacid, with one n; the maker is Dana, not Dana-anything-else.

About Magnesium Trisilicate (Compound Antacid)
Magnesium trisilicate is one of the oldest and most widely used antacids in Nigeria. It is almost never sold on its own — instead it is combined with other acid-neutralising salts such as light magnesium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate to make a compound antacid mixture. This combination is sold under brand names like Gecrol (manufactured by Tuyil Pharmaceutical Industries in Ilorin) as well as countless generic "magnesium trisilicate mixture" or "compound magnesium trisilicate" preparations found in every pharmacy and patent medicine store across the country. It is an over-the-counter medicine, meaning you do not need a prescription to buy it.
