About Pentoxifylline
Pentoxifylline is an old medicine that changes the physical behaviour of blood rather than its clotting. It makes red blood cells more flexible so they deform more easily through narrow capillaries, and it reduces blood viscosity and platelet stickiness. Where it is licensed, its main use is intermittent claudication — the cramping leg pain that comes on when walking and eases with rest, caused by narrowed arteries.
