Tadalafil vs Sildenafil: the weekend tablet or the classic — which fits how you live?

The short answer

They work the same way; the difference is timing. Sildenafil (Viagra-style) lasts four to six hours and is cheap and everywhere. Tadalafil (Cialis-style) lasts up to 36 hours — and a small daily dose removes scheduling from the equation entirely. Neither mixes with nitrate heart medicines, and both are heavily counterfeited in Nigeria, so verify before you buy.

Both belong to the same family (PDE5 inhibitors) and neither causes an erection by itself — they amplify the response to normal arousal. Sildenafil is the older molecule: it kicks in within about an hour, works best away from heavy or oily food, and fades after four to six hours. Tadalafil is slower to peak but stays active for up to a day and a half, which is why it earned the 'weekend pill' name, and food barely affects it.

In the Nigerian market the practical concerns are as important as the pharmacology. These are among the most faked medicines sold here — bought from hawkers or unregistered shops, the blue tablet may contain anything. Buy from a licensed pharmacy, check the NAFDAC number, and if you use any nitrate-based heart medicine (or have serious heart disease), these drugs are off the table until a doctor says otherwise.
