About Metronidazole
Metronidazole, universally known as 'Flagyl' across Nigeria, is one of the most commonly used medications in the country. It is a nitroimidazole antibiotic that works against anaerobic bacteria (bacteria that thrive without oxygen) and protozoa (parasitic organisms). Metronidazole enters the bacterial or parasitic cell, where it is converted into active compounds that damage the organism's DNA, ultimately killing it.
